About the Project
The Education Center
In early 2009, the Nez Perce Tribe (Nimi’ipuu)
of North Central Idaho contracted
with Agnew::Beck Consulting to complete a feasibility study for a Multi-Purpose Training Education and Business Development Center. The facility is intended to serve Tribal members and other residents from three states: Idaho, eastern Washington and eastern Oregon. The facility is envisioned as a one-stop educational center, offering workforce training, early to adult education and a business development center. It is intended to give residents the educational assistance they need to pursue local economic development efforts, while supporting traditional Tribal culture.
Feasibility Study
The feasibility study was conducted
to answer multiple questions concerning the capacity of the Nez
Perce Tribe to build and operate a multi-purpose training,
education, and business development facility in
Lapwai, Idaho.
In-person interviews with students, Tribal program managers,
business and educational leaders, local manufacturers and Tribal
elders helped form answers to the many questions.
The feasibility study defined long
standing barriers that Tribal members face in continuing their
formal education, forming businesses or learning a trade. It
defined local community partners in education and business and
helped define square footage and construction cost estimates.
The ultimate goal of the
feasibility study was to establish a need, outline the facility,
define the goals and identify any barriers to success.
